Vermeil refers to a specific type of gold plating. To qualify as vermeil, a piece of jewellery must meet certain criteria: it must use sterling silver as the base metal, the gold used must be at least 10k, and the gold layer must be at least 1 micrometer thick, as required by the Government of Canada.
Vermeil and gold-plated jewellery differ primarily in their base metal and thickness specifications. Both require the gold to be at least 10k and have a minimum thickness of 1 micrometer. However, gold-plated items can use any type of metal as the base. We ensure a minimum of 2.5 microns of 14k gold on all our jewellery to enhance durability.
